Safety and Certification
Hazards
- Saw blades are very sharp and strong. They are capable of grabbing, maiming, cutting, or/and dismembering body parts.
- Saw blade spins at 4800 RPM and is capable of throwing unsecured work pieces and debris at operator and beyond
- Saw is rated at 230V/13A and may cause electrocution if improperly grounded
- Sawing produces fine dust that affects respiratory health
- Large work pieces may fall off the saw and injure if improperly handled or secured
Prohibited Operations
- Modifying/hacking the saw and its original accessories
- Bypassing of saw safety features
- Cutting green wood, metals or lumber containing screws/nails
- Cutting very short/small lumber - use a bandsaw or hand tools instead
- Cutting lumber that exceeds saw capacity - use a track saw instead
Pre-Operational Safety
- Check self for loose clothing, hair and jewelry. Remove gloves.
- Clear the saw top of extraneous objects and remove any excess dust or debris from operational parts
- Ensure that dust collection is properly connected, functioning and isn’t clogged by debris. Make sure that correct blast gates are open/closed to divert the air path to the saw.
- Make sure that saw parts are functioning as intended and that nothing is loose or damaged
- Set up any jigs, fences and safety equipment before turning the saw on
- When moving the saw from the home position, set the safety switch to the OFF position and disconnect the twist-lock connector from the wall outlet. Move the saw using the lifting bar only. Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet using the twist-lock extension cord.
Operational Safety
- Take note of the emergency switch on the left side of the saw (under the sliding table). Push button to activate the switch. Pull and twist the button to reset.
- Turn on the dust collection before turning the saw on. Let the dust collection work for at least 10 seconds after turning the saw off.
- Position your body so that it’s not in line with the blade to avoid injuries related to kickback or other occurrences
- Secure workpieces against fences, stops or clamps - do not make free-hand cuts
- Use push stick as needed to support smaller material and to clear debris. Do not reach in toward the blade with your bare hands.
- Saw blade height should be set just slightly higher than workpiece height for through cuts, making sure it clears the knob on the blade guard. For groove/dado cuts, the stack should be no higher than half the material height.
- Do not reach over blade until it has stopped moving
- Do not leave saw until blade has come to a complete stop
- Do not adjust the blade or fences while the blade is spinning
