Proposal statement is TBD.

Background

The back room has a few issues:

  • Often messy and difficult to navigate. There are a lot of tools and not a lot of room for them. Therefore, tools should be organized so that it's easier to put things away and keep the center of the room clear for maneuvering - give everything a home.
  • Woodworking dust settles on everything. Woodworking tools need to be tied in to dust collection. Overhead dust filtering should help capture whatever dust ports don't.
  • Electrical outlets are not always convenient or adequate - need more.
  • New table saw is coming and it should be installed properly in a dedicated location.

It's sensible to fix the above issues by spending some money on back room improvement. Below is a proposal of tasks to spend money on and accomplish.

Electrical

  • Add circuit(s) along south, west and maybe north walls at chest height. Installation should not interfere with framing and dust collection.
  • Add separate circuit for the 2HP dust collector near south-east corner.
  • Add circuit(s) on ceiling for electrical cord reel(s) and air cleaner(s).
  • Re-do air compressor electrical connection such that there is an outlet on loft's surface which can be controlled by a switch on the exterior of the server room wall.
  • Run single phase 220V 25A circuit to south wall near window/radiator for new table saw. (See New Table Saw section.)

Framing Lumber Shelving

Install shelving out of framing lumber around the perimeter of the room. Final configuration is TBD. This shelving will be based on the design of existing shelving along the west wall, however it will use 10FT vertical members (instead of 8FT). Existing west wall shelving shall be rebuilt as it's sagging.

Dust Mitigation

Dust mitigation plans assume that dusty woodworking (sawing, sanding, planing) will be constrained to the SE quadrant of the room.

Dust Collection

The following tools should be accommodated on the dust collection system:

  1. New table saw - 5" main port and 2" overhead port (See New Table Saw section.)

Air Filtration

Install a JET 24770 air filtration system 2-3FT away from the south wall, roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of the way down (measuring from the west side), 8-10FT from the floor (suspended from ceiling beams), intake facing SE quadrant. In other words, intake should be in path of table saw blade, behind table saw user. System will plug into new ceiling outlet. Pair of washable first stage filters to be considered.
