Proposal to Purchase Mobile Tool Bases

Language

Allocate up to $350 to purchase up to 6 universal mobile tool bases for the larger heavier tools in the back shop.

Background

There are a number of tools in the back shop which are large and do not move easily or safely (for us or the tools). The purchase of universal mobile tool bases will allow us to make tools easier to move around the space, which will allow us both immediate flexibilitiy (in moving tools out of the way when needed) as well as stepping toward our ultimate goal of better shop organization, where all tools have a home. These bases are for purchase on amazon (with prime delivery), appear easy to assemble, and could be "upgraded" with the purchase of tube steel to replace the normal cross members if needed. The bases feature lifting casters, so that when the tool is in use it rests on feet rather than relying on locking casters to hold the tool in place. This allows the tool to act basically as though it were not on casters, and then be easly moveable when needed. Tools that would get bases would include: 2 drill presses, 2 bandsaws, and the jointer. The 6th allocated base would be if a new large tool enters the space in the near future.

Costs

The bases are available for $52.00 per base on amazon... the request includes budget to be able to purchase up to 6 bases with room for small unexpected accessories (replacement bolts...etc.). There are two main styles, both the same price. Here is the first (which includes two lifting wheels, allowing the tool to travel on 4 wheels and be more stable): https://goo.gl/jpXnx8 The second option is made by Delta: https://goo.gl/AV46dn This option has one lifting wheel and would require additional wood or square tubing to build the base. As such my current proposal is to purchase mobile bases in general, to be chosen based on the need of the tool.

Timeline

Once approved, materials should be procured and the project completed within a weekend. The only limiting factor would be having free time to complete, however they should be easy enough to assemble it's possible that others could potentially assist with easy to follow instructions.
