In the Beginning: 2012-2013

Feb 12, 2012 - Matt and Dmitriy went to a Chicago Coffee Club trip to Cafe Mustache in Logan Square. Matt explained his membership at Pumping Station: One ("PS1") and how it was inconvenient to travel by public transit from where he lived at the time on the South Side. Unable to utilize his membership to the fullest, he mused about having "a PS1 on the south side." Matt and Dmitriy chatted about this at length and the following morning, having slept on it, Dmitriy decided it was a great idea and that they should look into making it a reality.

Feb 21, 2012 - Matt and Dmitriy visited PS1 for their gen-bod meeting. They spoke with Tim Saylor (then PS1 president) about starting a PS1 satellite campus. He rejected (in a friendly way) the idea, and suggested they start their our own organization because he believed each location should have its own culture and goals.

Mar 7th, 2012 - SSH:C was born. The very first Wednesday Meeting at Matt's apartment.

The Mana Years: 2013-2015

Move to Bubbly: 2015

At the beginning, in 2012, Matt actually heard of Bubbly Dynamics and sent an inquiry, but with no response, assumed that there were no vacancies. Fast forward to 2015.

Mar 30, 2015 - Joseph Budka, owner of MAKE! Chicago attended our board meeting to discuss a joint venture. Both organizations, low on cash and wanting to move out of our current spaces (Joe from his then current unit on Halsted/Cermak and us from MANA), discussed the option of looking for a new space together. With our lease nearly up and MANA not seeing eye-to-eye with our mission/operations, we looked into searching for a larger space that we could subdivide, as most industrial spaces are larger than what either party would be able to solely afford.

Joe had a lead for an opening at Bubbly Dynamics. We checked it out, fell in love with the space and found mutual understanding with our would-be-landlord, John Edel, and decided to move ahead.

May 2015 - SSH:C moved to Bubbly Dynamics.

May - June 2015 - We quickly subdivided the space, building up insulated drywall between us and MAKE! Chicago.
