SSH:Chicago owns a variety of tools, most of which can be used without restrictions by any member. Certain tools are restricted and require certification due to risks of serious injury/death or possibility of expensive/irreversible damage to the tool by uncertified users. Certification is currently an informal process, but in general it entails learning how to properly use the tool from another previously certified user. An incomplete list of tools requiring certification can be found on this page.
