A shopping list for soundproofing our wall:
Numbers are based on an estimate of 30' of wall. They will have to be updated when Chris goes back and measures.
- 4 rolls of 32' x 23" fiberglass insulation. Home depot equivalent of this: http://www.menards.com/main/p-2769573-c-19566.htm?tid=-7400819307512094782
- 15 * 10' lengths of R1 resilient channel: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-1-2-in-x-10-ft-Resilient-Channel-727181/202090341
- Drywall screws (which we ostensibly own)
- Drywall (which we ostensibly own)
Steps:
- Cut insulation to 8' lengths
- Install insulation
- cut insulation away from outlets 3"
- install resilient channel
- horizontally along the ground, open edge up
- horizontally every 2' above that
- 5 layers of channel total, at 0', 2', 4', 6', and 8'
- Attach drywall to that
- mud drywall
